Course Description
Over the past years, applying Statistical Design of Experiments (DoE) for process or product optimization has become a routine part of your work. Your experience allows you to handle complex aspects with ease, but when faced with particularly tricky real-world problems, you may find yourself questioning which advanced techniques to combine in order to model the situation most effectively. This course will equip you with the knowledge and skills to tackle these challenges, empowering you to become a DoE expert.
What Are You Going to Learn?
After a very brief refresher of the Design of Experiments basics, the course examines in detail about ten challenging practical cases. The difficulties most often arise from the specific real-world context, but can also be due to the dynamic nature of the experimentation or to modelling issues. Each case is explored with real data, and an efficient practical solution is presented. Participants will for instance learn to optimize processes or products over a period of a time, to model very specific formulation restrictions, and to treat correctly problems in which the availability of materials strongly restricts the selection of the design points. The course also explains how to react when statistical models are not fully satisfactory and how to account for previous knowledge when applying the DoE approach.
The course includes hands-on software demonstrations and PC-based exercises based on complex real industrial case studies, which offers an opportunity to extend significantly one’s practical experience. Emphasis is placed on providing appropriate hands-on solutions – even in contexts which raise many uncertainties at first glance.
The course uses the intuitive, web-based DoE software tool STAVEX (for the intranet). However, the approaches proposed are mostly generic and may be applied also with other tools, depending on how extensive their functionality is.
Who Should Attend?
Scientists and engineers in Research, Development and Production (e.g. in chemistry, pharmacy, biotechnology, process technology, physics etc.) who want to develop or optimize processes and products efficiently and who need to deal with particularly complex problems or specific real-world difficulties.
Very good knowledge of the Design of Experiments methodology (as provided in “Design of Experiments with STAVEX (Part A)” and “Design of Experiments with STAVEX (Part B)” and a large experience in its application are required.
Previous experience using STAVEX constitutes a clear advantage, but is not absolutely necessary.
